Jim Cossitt to Speak about Bankruptcy Ethics

Jim Cossitt, Montana’s only dual-board certified bankruptcy attorney — certified by the the American Board of Certification in both consumer and business bankruptcy law — is set to speak on bankruptcy ethics issues at two upcoming events.

AMERICAN BANKRUPTCY INSTITUTE WEBINAR
On September 24, 2013, Jim will be a panelist on a live webinar entitled: “The Complex Requirements and Ethical Duties of Representing Consumer Debtors” presented by ABI’s Consumer Bankruptcy Committee. Jim Cossitt and other nationally recognized ethics experts will discuss the ethical and compensation issues that arise while representing chapter 7, 11 and 13 debtors.

FEDERAL BAR ASSOCIATION BANKRUPTCY CONTINUING EDUCATION SEMINAR, DES MOINES, IOWA
On October 24, 2013, Jim will be a featured speaker for the third consecutive year at the Iowa Chapter of the Federal Bar Association’s, 32nd Annual Bankruptcy Conference. Jim Cossitt’s presentation will be on selected ethics issues in Chapter 7 & 13 cases and based on the recent work of the ABI National Ethics Task Force.

About Jim Cossitt
Jim Cossitt, who is board certified in both consumer and business bankruptcy law, recently completed a two-year term as a member of the National Ethics Task Force of the American Bankruptcy Institute.  While on the Task Force, Jim chaired the consumer subcommittee, which prepared reports on:  1) Limited Scope of Representation;   and 2) Competency for Debtor’s Counsel in Consumer and Business cases.

A graduate of Iowa State University, Jim received his law degree from the University Of Iowa College Of Law in 1986. He became Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy in 1995 and Business Bankruptcy in 2005, by the American Board of Certification.  After practicing law and serving as a bankruptcy trustee in central Iowa, he established a private practice in Kalispell, Montana, in 1999.  He specializes in bankruptcy, debtor / creditor and commercial law.
